4 Simple Tips for a Healthy Summer

We are in the dog days of summer and it is HOT HOT HOT.
The heat can make you want to just lay around the house in the air conditioning sucking on a popsicle being lazy, we get it! Although it is important to take days off and rest, that’s no way to spend your whole summer!
Here are four simple tips to help you have an enjoyable, safe, and healthy summer.

This is a no-brainer, but it’s surprising how we can forget to get enough H2o even when it’s hot out. Too often we try to quench our thirst with soda or other sugary sports drinks when we probably should just choose water.

Tip: Invest in a high-quality refillable water bottle you can keep with you during the day. Drink often and refill often! If you need a break from plain water or need some electrolytes, skip the sports drink and go with any flavor of HEART + HYDRATION instead!

Summer can be an incredibly busy time. School is out, we have family get-togethers, vacations, and other fun and important things that can make living a healthy lifestyle a bit of a challenge.

Tip: Take some time on Sunday to plan out your week. Maybe do some meal prep so you have healthy meals on hand and schedule in your workouts. If you fail to plan, then you might just fail!

Again, staying indoors where it’s nice and cool might seem like a great idea, but spending too much time indoors can limit your exposure to vitamin D from sunlight. Although it’s more common in the winter time, it’s still possible to be deficient in this essential vitamin.

Tip: Make sure you’re getting at least 30 minutes of sun exposure each day. Don’t go out when it’s the hottest part of the day, but a morning or evening walk can help boost vitamin D levels, improve sleep, and stabilize your mood. If you do go out when the sun is strong, make sure you have proper sunburn protection.

Summer has the BEST food! Besides your summer BBQs, summertime provides an abundance of fresh in-season fruits and veggies.

Tip: Find out what fruits and veggies are in season and try to incorporate those into your meals. They will taste better and be more affordable than if you buy off-season produce.
