NATURAL WAYS TO IMPROVE
Did you know, our skin is our largest organ?
You might not think of your skin as an organ that needs consistent care like you would any other major organ, but it’s definitely important! Unfortunately, this care can be ignored until damage and aging have already taken effect.
Skin is an important part of the immune system. it acts as a barrier for our body from the outside world protecting us from mechanical damage, noxious substances, invasion by microorganisms, and radiation, as well as regulates our body temperature and water loss.
Despite the vital the protection our skin provides for our bodies, we are mostly concerned with skin as it relates to our physical appearance. Afterall, it is what everyone sees!
1 – EAT FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Although further research is needed as far as skin benefits, fruit and vegetable consumption may represent the most healthy and safe method in order to maintain a balanced diet and youthful appearing skin, it’s a win-win!
Fruits and vegetables that are of different color varieties offer a wide range of vitamins and minerals that not only keep your waistline fine and your internal organs happy, but they may also provide benefits for your skin.
Vitamin A – Vitamin A is necessary for maintenance and repair of skin tissues. Deficiency in vitamin A may result in a dry or flaky complexion. You can find vitamin A in sweet potatoes, carrots, and dark leafy greens.
Vitamin B Complex – Vitamin B has been shown to decrease inflammation and even out skin tone. Give your skin a healthy glow with vitamin B found in foods such as oatmeal, rice, eggs, and bananas.
Vitamin E – Vitamin E has shown to reduce the appearance of scars and helps combat rough dry skin. Foods that will help keep your skin soft containing vitamin E are nuts, olives, and spinach.
Vitamin C – Vitamin C can help with collagen production which helps with wrinkles, skin texture, and helps reduce photodamage. Peppers, leafy greens, guava, kiwis, papaya, and oranges are good sources of vitamin C.
Vitamin K – May help with dark circles and bruising. Foods that contain vitamin K are dark leafy greens. The best method may be to apply topically rather than ingest for skin benefit, but more research needed.
Omega 3 and Essential Fatty Acids – Help improve skin’s elasticity and moisture balance. Nuts, seeds, chicken, and fish are great sources of omega 3’s and essential fatty acids.
2 – STAY HYDRATED
An adequate amount of water in the outer layer of the skin is important for a general appearance of a soft and smooth skin.
