5 Healthy Tips for Eating Out

People think being healthy means restrictions, deprivation, and dissatisfaction, but that is simply not the case! Living a healthy life isn’t a short-term goal, it’s a journey! It shouldn’t make you feel like you have to miss out on fun times or dampen your social life.

Many get togethers (whether it’s for birthdays, holidays, or just a fun night out) revolve around food and drinks, and that doesn’t always mesh well with your health goals. But don’t worry, there are ways you can go out to eat with friends and family without sabotaging your health goals.

Here are a few tips for the next time you dine out!

1. Don’t be afraid to ask for substitutions or modifications to make your order healthier.

The restaurant should be willing and happy to accommodate.

Ask if they offer:

• Salad or side of vegetables instead of fries or starchy sides.

•Grilled chicken instead of breaded chicken.

•Vinaigrette instead of cream bases. (Order on the side and only use the amount you need.)

2. Limit alcohol and avoid sodas or other sugary drinks.

Alcohol and soda’s pack a lot of extra calories and sugar, at least 95+ calories per serving. Go for water or unsweetened teas instead. Drinking water with your meal will also help with digestion so you’ll feel less weighed down later.

3. Take your time and engage in conversation with your friends at dinner.

Keeping your hunger in check can help you prevent overeating or snacking so you can keep up on your progress. After all, the last thing you want to do is backtrack on any weight loss you’ve worked so hard for.
